PHILIPPIANS
The Apostle Paul wrote the Book of Philippians during his first imprisonment in Rome around AD 60-62. This heartfelt letter (Prison Epistle) was written to the Church of Philippi, revealing his deep affection and joy for the Philippian believers.
The Church of Philippi was planted by Paul about ten years before he wrote this letter during his second missionary journey. This was the first church established in Europe, and it was remarkable evidence of the time and heart that Paul had put into it through the power working within it.
In this letter, Paul explains his current situation and expresses his gratitude for their unwavering support, the gift they had sent him, and his satisfaction at their progression of faith. His sincere warmth and genuine love for this community are clear as he tries to inspire, teach, and remind them of the key parts of the Christian life.
In this letter, Paul emphasizes the importance of persevering in faith and joy for the sake of the Gospel. Throughout Philippians, we see an ongoing call for unity within the church.
