Exploring Ephesians
Finding JOY in June

As we begin book 6 of the “Finding Joy Throughout the Year” series, we invite you to join us in a new reading plan that opens with the New Testament book of Ephesians.
Ephesians is only six chapters long (and 6 pages in my Bible). But don’t let its length fool you. This letter is overflowing with rich truths that will grow your knowledge and deepen your understanding of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. You will be encouraged by revelations of God's grace, discover an accurate portrayal of the Christian life, and find insightful evidence of the importance of the church. Ephesians reveals God’s eternal plan for all humanity.
Ephesians was written by the Apostle Paul during his imprisonment around AD 62 (though some suggest an earlier date). Many scholars have described Ephesians as a circular letter, meaning that it wasn’t intended for one particular church but instead for several churches in Asia Minor that were in the near vicinity of Ephesus. Paul directs his message at the believes and how they should live their lives in light of their new identity in Christ.
As you prepare to dive into this transformative book, here are a few things to keep in mind:
Chapters 1-3: These chapters focus on who they are now in Christ, the beliefs that define their Christian life, the gift of their new community, and the goodness of God’s grace that they have received in Christ.
Chapters 4-6: In the final 3 chapters, Paul provided practical instruction on how believers are to live in light of their new identities as individuals, families, and unified bodies of believers.
